Geostud representatives participated in the First Annual Forum of the EU Mission Restore our Ocean Mission and Waters which took place on Friday, February 17th, 2023, in Brussels.

“Our presence at this first European Union forum, where fundamental topics related to the continent’s watercourses,  seas and oceans were debated, is due to our involvement on an international level where we aim for Geostud to be a reference point for environmental and geotechnical topics in Romania and abroad. The meeting in Brussels is only the first official step with a strong focus on the aquatic environment and aims to improve the health of the old continent’s waters and oceans by 2030 through    research, innovation, citizens’ engagement, and investment focused on the blue economy.

Geostud is committed to this direction by developing projects whose objective is to maintain the state of conservation of environmental factors and the harmony between Humans and Nature”, declares Vlad  Sandu, Deputy General Director of Geostud.

This flagship event is the largest annual gathering of the EU Mission “Restore our Ocean and Waters”, a major European initiative aimed at preventing pollution, protecting biodiversity, and developing sustainable activities in our oceans and waters.

During the forum, the balance sheet of the first year of implementation of projects and actions to achieve the objectives set by 2030 was presented.

The event focused on implementation commitments, illustrated concrete measures and actions for protecting and restoring marine   and freshwater ecosystems and biodiversity, increasing coastal resilience and  eliminating pollution through measures that respect the principles of circular economy and climate neutrality.

The European project DaWetRest (DAnube WETlands RESToration), to which Geostud contributes as a partner, is part of the “3D – Decarbonisation of the Danube Delta” consortium, designed to develop and implement concrete solutions applied to the Danube basin to address the challenges faced by its ecosystems of inland and coastal wetlands.

“The 3D initiative (“Decarbonizing Danube Delta”) was born as a result of the collaboration of several partners from various categories, such as: research organizations, the academic environment, SMEs, NGOs, local administration, all following the same mission, that of decarbonation of the Danube Delta, also taking into account the needs of local communities.” declares Delia Dimitriu, Head of the Climate Change and Circular Economy Department at GEOSTUD. By participating in the forum Geostud continues its intensive work towards the implementation of measures for climate change mitigation and adaptation, with the main target of complying with the European Green Deal, Fit for 55, by 2030.
