Geostud participated from 06-18 November 2022 at COP27, the most important global conference dedicated to the fight against climate change. Hosting COP27 in the green city of Sharm El-Sheikh, this year marks the 30th anniversary of the adoption of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.

“Participating in such an event and Geostud’s active involvement in the implementation of climate change adaptation and resilience measures is natural, as the company’s major concerns are oriented towards research services and studies for environmental protection. During the conference, Geostud publicly highlighted the importance of a multidisciplinary approach to project planning and management in relation to climate change. We have also been actively involved in addressing and supporting topics on mitigation and adaptation measures to the effects of climate change, circular economy, energy reduction, waste management and carbonisation”, says Petru Nicolae, Geostud CEO.

The aim of the event was to accelerate global climate action by reducing emissions, increasing adaptation efforts and scaling up funding flows to vulnerable communities, with ‘just transition’ remaining a priority for developing countries around the world.

The global plan devised at the conference calls for mobilising public and private partners for a common set of adaptation measures needed by 2030 in five impact systems: food and agriculture, water and nature, coastal zone and oceans, human settlements and infrastructure, including enabling solutions for planning and financing green projects.

More than 2000 organisations and companies from 131 countries, including Romania, have joined the causes supported by the COP27 Presidency. Geostud was the only private company, fully Romanian owned, present at COP27 with its exhibition stand located in the Innovation Zone pavilion.

“In the framework of the 3D Initiative (Decarbonization of the Danube Delta) and together with INCDDD (National Institute for Research and Development of the Danube Delta), Geostud has established important collaborations with public and private institutions from abroad, working in the fields of environmental consultancy and biodiversity monitoring. We aim to maintain and develop these partnerships in order to implement projects for a sustainable future in Romania as quickly as possible”, says Vlad Sandu, Geostud Deputy Director General.

On 8 November, we had the opportunity to meet with President Klaus Iohannis, in the context of an international event hosted by the President of Romania at the EU Pavilion. On 11 November, together with other partners in the 3D project (Decarbonisation of the Danube Delta), Geostud received the visit of Mrs Alexandra Bocșe, State Counsellor for Climate and Sustainability in the Presidential Administration. Mrs Alexandra Bocșe appreciated our effort to participate in COP27 and to contribute to the international and multidisciplinary innovation processes, essential to achieve climate neutrality.

In his National Declaration, delivered in plenary at COP27, President Iohannis stated that “Romania fully supports the European Union’s leadership role in limiting climate change and our shared commitment to reduce net greenhouse gas emissions. We need to ensure an orderly climate transition with multiple benefits: investment in research, development and innovation, development of the green economy and job creation.”

We believe that Geostud can play an active role in achieving these goals through national and international action on environmental protection and climate change mitigation. Geostud’s objective, together with its partners in the 3D initiative, is to implement action plans based on decarbonisation solutions in the agriculture and food, mobility and transport, energy, biodiversity and social sectors in the context of the directions set by international protocols.
