GEOSTUD HOST FOR A DELEGATION IN THE GEOTECHNICAL FIELD
On Wednesday 13 July, Geostud representatives together with Prof. Dr. Ing. Emeritus Anton Chirica hosted an important delegation in the geotechnical field, namely: Mr. Giorgos Belokas, Secretary General of the Hellenic Society of Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering; Mrs. Prof. Univ. Dr. Ing. Loretta-Giulia Batali, Professor in the Department of Geotechnics and Foundations, PhD supervisor and Director of the Council of Doctoral Studies of UTCB; Prof. Univ. Dr. Ing. Horațiu Popa, Professor in the Department of Geotechnics and Foundations of UTCB and Director of the Research Centre in Geotechnical Engineering CIG.
During the meeting, projects from all Geostud’s fields of activity were presented, especially those related to the geotechnical sector: physical-mechanical tests on earth, numerical modelling of geotechnical structures, underground constructions in urban environment – associated risks and their control, earth behaviour and modelling, constitutive models, numerical analyses, slope stability and probabilistic geotechnics.
It was also discussed how and at what pace the geotechnical environment is developing in Romania compared to the international one, the methods and techniques used both in the field and in the EU laboratories. Opinions and solutions on ongoing national geotechnical projects were shared, emphasizing the importance of environmental protection.
The exchange of experience and opinions between representatives of educational institutions and the private sector of the two countries was an excellent opportunity to facilitate new opportunities for collaboration and to train future professionals who will actively contribute to the increase in the number of experts needed in Romania.
